Director of Market Development and Growth Marketing
Hum Capital
Marketing & Communications, Sales & Business Development
New York, NY, USA
USD 145k-175k / year + Equity
Who we are
Hum Capital is an AI-powered direct lender and private capital marketplace that connects with high-growth companies seeking debt with our own investment vehicles and other institutional investors and credit providers. We leverage proprietary data and machine learning to streamline the capital formation process, reducing friction for both issuers and capital providers. Our platform operates at the intersection of fintech infrastructure, private credit, and institutional distribution, serving a market where speed, data quality, and trusted relationships drive outcomes.
The Role
Hum Capital is seeking a Director of Market Development and Growth Marketing to own and scale the company's commercial surface area, spanning brand and messaging, demand generation, partnership development, and market expansion. This is a senior individual contributor role reporting directly to the C-suite, open to candidates in New York City or Chicago (hybrid, 2–3 days in office) or qualified remote candidates nationally, with periodic travel expected.
You will sit at the intersection of marketing, business development, and strategy: translating complex financial products into clear value propositions, building institutional partnerships, and running a disciplined growth engine that generates qualified pipeline, with ownership of external agency relationships and meaningful influence over how Hum is perceived, discovered, and chosen by small and medium sized enterprises searching for capital. This is not a pure brand role or a pure BD role; we need someone who can do both with credibility.
Key Responsibilities
Digital Marketing & Demand Generation
- Own end-to-end digital marketing strategy across paid, owned, and earned channels, with a clear mandate to generate qualified institutional leads and grow top-of-funnel pipeline.
- Manage and maximize effectiveness of external agency partners across SEO/SEM, content, paid social, and email, setting KPIs, reviewing performance, and holding partners accountable to ROI.
- Build and optimize the marketing and sales funnel in partnership with internal stakeholders; own conversion metrics from impression to qualified opportunity.
- Oversee marketing budget allocation and reporting, with a performance-first orientation and willingness to reallocate spend in real time based on data.
- Deploy marketing automation and CRM tooling (HubSpot, Salesforce) to enable lead scoring, nurture workflows, and pipeline visibility.
Brand, Messaging & Content
- Shape and maintain Hum’s market positioning and messaging for distinct audiences, such as institutional investors, credit providers, lenders and growth-stage borrowers, ensuring consistency and resonance across all touchpoints.
- Produce and manage a library of compelling external collateral: pitch decks, one-pagers, case studies, product messaging, thought leadership content and conference materials.
- Develop a content strategy that builds Hum’s authority at the intersection of private credit, AI-enabled underwriting, and alternative data, targeting both practitioner and LP/allocator audiences.
- Collaborate with leadership and product teams to translate technical capabilities into differentiated market narratives that are accurate, compelling, and accessible.
Business Development & Institutional Partnerships
- Identify, cultivate, and advance partnerships with platforms, distribution channels, ecosystem participants, and institutional intermediaries that can accelerate product adoption and AUM growth.
- Represent Hum Capital in external settings (conferences, roundtables, partner meetings) with credibility across both financial services and technology-oriented audiences.
- Manage business development pipeline for strategic relationships, from initial outreach through commercial terms and ongoing account stewardship.
- Build structured market feedback loops: synthesize signals from partners, customers, and prospects and route actionable insight back to product, credit, and executive teams.
Strategy & Market Intelligence
- Monitor competitive dynamics, market trends, and regulatory developments across private credit, fintech lending, and institutional capital markets; surface implications for Hum’s go-to-market approach.
- Partner with product and leadership teams on new product launch strategies, from market sizing and segmentation through launch sequencing and adoption measurement.
- Analyze campaign and pipeline performance data to inform commercial prioritization and resource allocation decisions.
What We’re Looking ForExperience & Background
- 7+ years of progressive experience in marketing, growth, or business development with meaningful time in fintech, private credit, lending or institutional financial services.
- Demonstrated track record of managing external agency relationships and delivering measurable ROI from digital marketing programs (paid search, SEO, content, email, paid social).
- Experience with B2B marketing to institutional audiences (lenders, asset managers, credit funds, family offices) is strongly preferred.
- Familiarity with loan origination platforms, private credit structures, or alternative lending is a meaningful differentiator.
- Hands-on experience with marketing technology stacks: CRM (HubSpot, Salesforce), marketing automation, analytics (GA4, Mixpanel), and attribution tooling.
- Track record of building content and collateral that performs in financially sophisticated markets, not just brand awareness but pipeline contribution.
Skills & Competencies
- Strong written and verbal skills, equally comfortable writing a credit market whitepaper and presenting in an LP meeting.
- Analytically driven: you design dashboards, review funnel metrics weekly, and make spending decisions based on data rather than instinct alone.
- Commercially wired: you understand how pipeline converts, what institutional buyers care about, and how to shorten a complex B2B sales cycle.
- Highly organized with strong project management discipline, able to run multiple workstreams (campaigns, partnerships, content) simultaneously without dropping threads.
- Entrepreneurial and self-directed; you can operate without a large team beneath you and are energized by building rather than maintaining.
Note on Scope: We have calibrated this role to reflect current market norms for Director-level growth marketing in fintech and private markets. Elements of broader strategic planning or formal team management may evolve over time as the function matures, but immediate priorities are demand generation, institutional partnerships, and brand/messaging ownership.
Why Hum Capital
- High-conviction, well-capitalized fintech at the convergence of AI, private credit, and institutional capital markets.

- Competitive compensation with meaningful equity participation at a growth-stage fintech.
