Director of Financial Operations
Accounting & Finance, Operations
Chicago, IL, USA
Who we are
Hum Capital is an AI-powered direct lender and private capital marketplace that connects with high-growth companies seeking debt with our own investment vehicles and other institutional investors and credit providers. We leverage proprietary data and machine learning to streamline the capital formation process, reducing friction for both issuers and capital providers. Our platform operates at the intersection of fintech infrastructure, private credit, and institutional distribution, serving a market where speed, data quality, and trusted relationships drive outcomes.
The Role
We're hiring a Director of Operations to own Hum Financial's full operating system and lead its transformation through AI and automation.
This isn't a "keep the lights on" ops role. You'll inherit a functioning operation, lender relationships, active portfolio monitoring, a deal closing engine, and your mandate is to make it dramatically faster, smarter, and more scalable by integrating AI across every layer.
You'll report directly to Stephen Isaacs, President of Hum Financial, manage two analysts, and be a core member of the leadership team.
Location: Chicago preferred. New York or remote considered for the right candidate.
What You'll Own
- Lender & Banking Operations
Own our funding cycle with Synovus and Wilmington Trust — Advance Requests, Borrowing Base Certificates, cash management across entities. You're the day-to-day relationship lead with our banking partners.
- Deal Closing
Run the paper close calendar end-to-end. Own data integrity between closing documents and Salesforce. Coordinate legal, credit, and capital markets across every closing.
- Portfolio Monitoring & Borrower Servicing
Monitor portfolio companies for lockbox and lender account compliance. Own borrower escalation triage. Drive resolution on defaults, partials, and workouts alongside legal and credit.
- AI & Transformation — The Core Mandate
Integrate Hypercore, Salesforce, and Hum's BI stack into a cohesive, AI-powered investment ops platform. Build automated workflows for portfolio monitoring, risk flagging, and compliance tracking that surface problems before they escalate. We're actively building this. You'll have real ownership over how it takes shape.
- Cash Management
Track fund liquidity across entities and serve as the operational decision-maker on day-to-day cash questions alongside the CFO.
Who You Are
- 7–12 years in financial operations, loan servicing, or credit ops. Specialty lending, fintech, or asset management preferred
- You've managed a lender draw process, understand borrowing base mechanics, and can hold your own in an IC conversation
- A genuine technologist: you've adopted technology tools in your own workflow and have built or led automation initiatives
- Obsessive about data accuracy. You build systems so errors don't happen, not just catch them after the fact
- A clear communicator who can run a call with a banking partner and a team standup in the same morning
- A natural people leader who coaches, delegates thoughtfully, and builds team capability over time
Bonus: Revenue-based finance or SMB lending experience, Hypercore or similar LMS familiarity, SQL
Why Hum Capital
We've spent five years proving that AI-powered underwriting and portfolio management can outperform the traditional private credit model. The portfolio is growing — 63% YoY — and the operational infrastructure needs to match that ambition. This hire isn't backfill. It's a bet on where we're going.
If you want to own something real at a startup that's already past the hard part of finding product-market fit, and where what you build this year actually changes how the business operates, this is that opportunity.
Annual Salary Range: $175,000–$200,000 base, plus discretionary equity.
Final compensation will be determined based on candidate experience, qualifications, and location. Hum Capital is committed to equitable and transparent pay practices.
