SUPPLIER QUALITY SPECIALIST (STARLINK)
SpaceX is leveraging our experience building rockets and spacecraft to deploy Starlink, the world’s largest satellite constellation and most advanced broadband internet system. We provide reliable and fast internet to millions of users worldwide, including populations with little or no connectivity, rural communities, aircraft, watercraft, and places where existing services are unreliable, too expensive, or disconnected by natural disasters. We design, build, test, and operate all parts of the system, thousands of satellites and consumer antennae that allow users to connect within minutes of unboxing. As a Supplier Quality Specialist, you will ensure that our suppliers provide premium quality with rapidly evolving designs at commercial scale volumes. We are actively looking for candidates who possess comprehensive knowledge of manufacturing and quality tools and have unrelenting motivation to enable suppliers for success. This position supports the Supply Chain team by managing tactical supplier quality activities with operational rigor, providing exceptional service levels to all stakeholders, and allowing Supply Chain Engineering resources to focus on high priority actions, eliminating the impact of vendor-caused defects to SpaceX engineering and production through rapid defect containment, resolution, and corrective/ preventive action.
Primarily, you will uncover non-conformances onsite and work with the Supply Chain Engineering team to improve vendor quality and create a structure for executing and optimizing processes used to manage supplier deviation requests (SDRs), material review board (MRB), supplier part containments, and supplier corrective and preventive action activities. You will build an extensive network working with design engineering, build reliability, production, and supply chain management, gaining a deep understanding of SpaceX systems and processes.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Execute supply chain non-conformance management processes, including: SDR, MRB, return to vendor (RTV), and supplier corrective and preventive action (CAPA)
- Analyze supplier quality data and partner with supply chain engineers and others to drive supplier improvements
- Build relationships with cross-functional groups to identify, reduce, and eliminate impacts from vendor defects
- Assist the team in developing policies, standards, processes, and documentation to ensure continued success
BASIC QUALIFICATIONS:
- Bachelor's degree in an engineering or supply chain discipline or high school diploma or equivalency certificate and 2+ years of experience in an engineering, supply chain, manufacturing, or quality-related field in lieu of a degree
PREFERRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE:
- Bachelor's or master’s degree in an engineering or supply chain discipline
- Strong understanding of manufacturing processes and technical requirements
- Deep technical domain experience in one or more commodity types, such as machined, injection molded, or electronic parts
- Experience reading engineering drawings, including geometric dimensioning and tolerancing (GD&T)
- Experience with AS9100 or similar quality management standard
- Knowledge of supplier quality processes (Part or Supplier Approval Processes, First Article Inspection Reports, etc.)
- Previous experience working with suppliers, corrective/preventive action systems and/or supplier portals
- Experience in a supplier development capacity
- Experience with the following tools: Microsoft Office platforms, Excel, SQL, process flow mapping, enterprise resource planning systems,
- Experience or training with Lean manufacturing and/or Six Sigma
- Effective technical communications skills that cover status and needed action to leadership teams
- Ability to create and refine ideas or solutions to problems, communicating the benefits of change, and keeping related projects on track
ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:
- Ability to work extended hours, weekends, and offsite as needed
- Must be willing to travel up to 25%
- Ability to lift up to 25lbs unassisted
- Must be willing to work onsite, remote work not considered
