SCHOOL SECURITY OFFICER
The School Security Officer will join SpaceX’s Starbase Education team and work closely with SpaceX’s security team to deliver exceptional security and innovative operational support in building a world-class school environment. The ideal candidate will demonstrate cutting-edge operational thinking, ensuring the safety of students, staff, and visitors while optimizing school processes to foster an exceptional learning experience.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Manage entrance and exit procedures, including visitor screening, badge issuance, and monitoring access points to maintain a secure environment
- Coordinate security operations and implementation of security protocols for the school
- Staff the front office and interface with parents and guardians, addressing concerns, communicating school policies, and building positive relationships to support the school community
- Advance the logistics of school operations, including supply management, event coordination, and other miscellaneous daily workflows
- Respond to emergency situations (e.g., medical incidents, fire alarms, suspicious activity) and provide on-scene leadership and first response
- Execute security support as dictated by SpaceX security leadership and Education team
- Participate and assist in conducting advanced security training with education staff
- Maintain proficiency in security skills, such as basic investigations, surveillance, and emergency medical response
- Learn advanced skillsets relevant to security and education operations including but not limited to: EMT, VIP escort, security and education hardware/software
BASIC QUALIFICATIONS:
- Bachelor’s degree
- 4+ years of experience in the military, law enforcement, overseas security contracting, or corporate security OR 1+ years on the SpaceX security team as a security officer 2
PREFERRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE:
- Aptitude for critical incident handling
- Experience working with students and/or parents
- Impeccable character/integrity
- Excellent oral and written communication skills
- CPR/first aid for the professional rescuer or BLS for the healthcare provider
- Computer-based proficiency with Microsoft Windows and Microsoft Office, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook
- Extensive team-oriented experience
- Demonstrated ability to work as a team
- An intense interest in protecting the future of spaceflight
ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:
- Availability to work year-around to support regular school year, ongoing holiday and summer camps, and occasional events in evenings and on weekends
- Ability and willingness to occasionally stand in a static position for extended periods
- Ability to obtain and maintain a Level 4 Commissioned Security Officer license
- Able to wear approximately 20-30lbs of gear throughout a 12-hour shift
- Position is subject to pre-employment enhanced screening, including a background check, psychological test, bi-annual physical fitness test, and drug and alcohol tests
- Valid driver’s license
- Willingness to undergo psychological evaluation and maintain relevant certifications (e.g., state security officer license if required)
- Ability to work in various environments, including indoor offices and outdoor school grounds in varying weather conditions
- Eligible for a US Government security clearance
ITAR REQUIREMENTS:
- To conform to U.S. Government export regulations, applicant must be a (i) U.S. citizen or national, (ii) U.S. lawful, permanent resident (aka green card holder), (iii) Refugee under 8 U.S.C. § 1157, or (iv) Asylee under 8 U.S.C. § 1158, or be eligible to obtain the required authorizations from the U.S. Department of State.
