The Boring Company was founded to solve the problem of soul-destroying traffic by creating an underground network of tunnels. Today, we are creating the technology to increase tunneling speed and decrease costs by a factor of 10 or more with the ultimate goal of making Hyperloop adoption viable and enabling rapid transit across densely populated regions.
As a Lead Technical Recruiter at The Boring Company, you will play a pivotal role in building and scaling a world-class recruiting program focused on identifying, attracting, and hiring top engineering talent across multidisciplinary profiles, including software, mechanical, civil, electrical, and more. This position offers tremendous growth opportunities, allowing you to expand your expertise in diverse technical fields while contributing to groundbreaking infrastructure projects. You will lead sourcing, screening, interviewing, and onboarding efforts for entry-level to executive candidates, while collaborating closely with engineers, hiring managers, and key stakeholders. As a lead, you will also mentor junior recruiters, refine recruiting strategies, and drive process improvements. In many cases, you will be candidates’ first encounter with The Boring Company, and it is your job to represent the company with professionalism, pride, and enthusiasm. This role demands a high degree of autonomy, initiative, and the ability to take full ownership of tasks from inception to completion.
Responsibilities
- Partner with hiring managers to align on headcount needs, new requisitions, job postings, hiring strategies, and interview feedback, while providing leadership on best practices.
- Develop innovative sourcing strategies to identify and engage top engineers across software, mechanical, civil, electrical, and other specialized fields.
- Build and maintain strong relationships as the primary point-of-contact for TBC engineering teams, career centers, college faculty, student organizations, and industry networks.
- Screen candidates, discuss recommendations with hiring managers, and advance top talent through the interview process.
- Lead the post-approval onboarding process, including background checks, reference checks, offer negotiations, extending offer letters, and managing new hire paperwork.
- Identify recruiting challenges and proactively recommend or implement scalable solutions to enhance efficiency and effectiveness.
- Train and mentor managers, employees, and junior recruiters on recruiting and interviewing best practices, fostering a culture of excellence.
- Plan, coordinate, and execute logistical elements for on-campus recruiting, conferences, and other marketing events to promote The Boring Company.
- Guide and oversee a small team of recruiters, setting goals, providing feedback, and driving team performance to support rapid company growth.
Basic Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree.
- 7+ years of technical recruiting experience, with at least 2 years in a lead or supervisory role.
- Experience as an in-house recruiter in a fast-paced environment.
- Proven experience recruiting for electrical, mechanical, civil, software, or hardware engineering roles.
Preferred Skills and Experience
- Experience thriving in a startup or high-growth environment, where adaptability and innovation are key.
- Expertise in full-cycle in-house recruiting, from sourcing to onboarding.
- Demonstrated success recruiting across multidisciplinary engineering profiles, including electrical, mechanical, civil, software, and related fields.
- Sharp ability to discern between the top 50% and the top 5% of talent in their respective domains.
- Proficiency in non-traditional recruiting tactics, such as cold outreach to candidates and companies, organizing targeted networking events, engaging industry experts through creative methods, and launching specialized sourcing campaigns.
- Comfortable engaging directly with senior stakeholders, including Directors, VPs, and executive technical leaders.
- Strong relationship-building skills with hiring managers and candidates alike.
- Skill in presenting candidates accurately without overselling, positioning yourself as a talent expert to influence decisions collaboratively.
- Exceptional multitasking abilities, with the capacity to operate independently while contributing as a collaborative team leader.
Reporting Location: Bastrop, Texas - Headquarters (**On-site 5 days/week**)
