Full-time
The Boring Company was founded to solve the problem of soul-destroying traffic by creating an underground network of tunnels. Today, we are creating the technology to increase tunneling speed and decrease costs by a factor of 10 or more, enabling rapid transit across densely populated regions.
We're looking for a Tunnel Engineer to support full-cycle excavation operations on our Prufrock Tunnel Boring Machines, driving through soft, water-bearing ground beneath one of the densest urban corridors in the Middle East. This is a field-based role where you'll be embedded with the mining crew — responsible for monitoring production, interpreting geotechnical data, optimizing TBM performance, and ensuring tunneling stays on-line, on-grade, and on schedule.
Responsibilities:
- Support daily tunneling operations by tracking machine performance, advance rates, face pressures, and cutter wear
- Analyze geotechnical conditions and provide guidance on ground conditioning, face pressure management, cutterhead tooling, and excavation strategy
- Monitor ground settlement data and coordinate responses to protect third-party structures and utilities along the alignment
- Assist with TBM guidance systems, surveying, and tunnel alignment monitoring
- Coordinate shift handovers and maintain accurate production reports, logs, and as-built records
- Identify inefficiencies and work with cross-functional teams (mechanical, electrical, EHS) to improve performance and reduce downtime
- Assist with ring builds, cutterhead inspections, and machine diagnostics during planned maintenance windows and interventions
- Support testing, instrumentation, and quality control efforts for tunnel lining and annular grouting
- Ensure field activities comply with UAE regulations, RTA requirements, and project safety standards
Qualifications:
- Degree in Civil Engineering, Mining Engineering, Geotechnical Engineering, or related field
- 2+ years of experience in tunnel engineering, underground construction, or TBM operations (EPB or slurry experience preferred)
- Strong understanding of soil mechanics, soft-ground behavior, and segmental lining systems
- Comfortable working underground in rotating shifts and a fast-paced production environment
- Currently based in the UAE or GCC region, or eligible to work in the UAE
- Experience with tunnel survey systems, TBM guidance, or SCADA data monitoring tools is a plus
- Experience with settlement monitoring and instrumentation in urban tunneling a plus
- Professional engineering licensure (PE, CEng, or equivalent) or UAE Society of Engineers registration a plus, but not required
- Prior experience on major Gulf-region infrastructure projects (metro, road, or utility tunnels) a plus
Additional Requirements:
- The position may require extended hours and weekend work
- This role is on site / in person in Dubai, UAE
- The position will require regular work inside tunnels. Candidates should be comfortable with this
